What motives could the minister have had for putting on the veil? Could it simply been some physical deformity, or something more sinister and spiritual/supernatural?
I do not think that people would have freaked out that much if that was a true story. I think the veil was representing how people hide behind their dark sins...
I don't think it was a physical deformity because the people knew what he looked likebefore so this is the first time he wore it but i think it was more symbolic.
I agree with Maria and Sarah. I don't think that this is a actual true story, because I don't think the people's reaction would've been so extreme. But I do think it is based on a true story.
at the end of the story, it ended with another person killed a man, and as a result of that, he put on a black veil, do u think the minister is hiding something?
Well thanks, Ryan. Why wouldn't he want to be seen? It obviously pained him that people distrusted him and feared him because of the veil, so why would he put himself through that? Is there something so bad that he must separate himself from society?
just because he is a minister, he's still human. maybe, the veil is there becuz he's not meant to make that mistake... but when it comes to the common ppl, its easier to forgive themselves.
@ kenya, all humans make mistakes, even ministers are human by nature, and thus prone to making transgressions and sinning. So maybe he made a mistake that he can't possibly forgive himself for making, something to do with the girl who just died like Rachael said.
The veil might be a representation of the sinful nature of humans and people are so terrified by it when they see it they go crazy and the veil is meant to display that
sam, i definetly think it was written for entertainment, but because of things we have learned about his kind of messed up past ...it could have to do with his life.
and katie...really i mean if you were a drop dead gorgeous minister trying to lead people away from sin...wouldnt you wear a veil?
@ ryan, i think that this may represent something in hawthornes life and used at minister to emphaize something that happened in his life, just wrote it a different way
i think that he wants to be a reverend because he feels guilty about something in his past and he wants to make up for it by doing the work of God but he wears the veil to remind him of his past sins
Everyone is talking about how the veil is keeping back shame. When I read this I had a feeling that the veil was keeping something from entering the minister, if that makes any sense.
I do agree that the veil is a representation of humans sinful nature, like Brian said. Maybe the veil symbolizes death, like the minister is dead to the world or something.
Well this all happens after the girls death, maybe something he did caused the girl to die or maybe he did something inappropriate with the girl and he decided to cut himself off as a result of that. @ashleyc
WellSam it depends on the religion but yes mostof the time they cant marry..But they still sin like the movie Angels and Demons the pope had an affair with a nun and that was against the religious laws.
Racheal, i think she left him because she wanted normality and if he wouldnt take off the veil and was attracting wispers, then maybe she couldnt take it
hannah do you think he is actually hiding something, that he is ashamed of? Or do you agree with maria and the boys in the inner circle, and do you think he is wearing it to hide his face?
katie, i really think that he is hiding something from his past and that's just his reminder of it but he is trying to change his ways. it just seems strange to me though
@ ashley, ya thats what i was thinking (not the movie) but as a sin and that the veil helped with that sin. that also might be why his wife left him because she felt like he didnt want to be with her cause he wore the veil
@rachel i think the wife left him because he was keeping secrets, and she felt as if she couldn't trust him. If her own husband couldn't tell her the reason behind wearing the veil, what other secrets was he keeping?
OK well i dont think that its not tht hes hiding from something cause if he had done some sin wouldnt it fallow him in to his after life and he didnt have any fear for that
Hailey I think this story was written to show sin and different personality traits and depression. It's the other side. We don't always want happy stories the gothic romance shows a whole different perspective.
Maybe it is a way of preparing himself for death, I mean, it's inevitable, right? Maybe the girl's death impacted him greatly and made him realize that it was better not to be close with people so that they would not be so hurt when he died.
katie and hannah, really i think that the veil is there to represent evil within him,not his appearance. i really do not know for sure that he is even attractive at all! ohhh wweelllll. hes dead now anyway....if its even real?
I also thought when I read this that at the beginning of the wearing of the veil that people were surprised and that people were okay with it. But by the middle of the story everyone was scared to be in the presence of him.
Sam
ReplyDeletewho wants to start?
ReplyDeleteWhat motives could the minister have had for putting on the veil? Could it simply been some physical deformity, or something more sinister and spiritual/supernatural?
ReplyDeleteI think it might have been based on a true story but not an actual true story.
ReplyDeleteok so i didnt find it wierd at all
ReplyDeleteI do not think that people would have freaked out that much if that was a true story. I think the veil was representing how people hide behind their dark sins...
ReplyDeleteI don't think it was a physical deformity because the people knew what he looked likebefore so this is the first time he wore it but i think it was more symbolic.
ReplyDeleteDoes this story mean more like in the real world then in the story?
ReplyDeleteof course u didn't rachel haha
ReplyDeleteHey guys
ReplyDeleteok i thaought it was more to say howpeople react to something so small
ReplyDeleteWell nick the minister put the veil on becuse of shame for himself i feel as though it was pretty simple. because he didnt want to be seen
ReplyDeletewhat do you mean by that sam?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Maria and Sarah. I don't think that this is a actual true story, because I don't think the people's reaction would've been so extreme. But I do think it is based on a true story.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Maria, I think if a person say someone wearing a veil that they would get used to it.
ReplyDeletei think this is a true story
ReplyDeleteI think the viel is a way they hide behind they're mistakes
ReplyDeleteI think the black veil is a metaphore for shame or dishonnor
ReplyDeleteWell the thing with the sins is that we dont know if he commited any sins
ReplyDeleteI agree with ashley cause it represents something that he did or morning a loss, hiding from the truth, but not from physical looks.
ReplyDeleteat the end of the story, it ended with another person killed a man, and as a result of that, he put on a black veil, do u think the minister is hiding something?
ReplyDeleteWell thanks, Ryan. Why wouldn't he want to be seen? It obviously pained him that people distrusted him and feared him because of the veil, so why would he put himself through that? Is there something so bad that he must separate himself from society?
ReplyDeleteevan was kind of rude..what if the minister was actually really attractive and wanted to hide it because everyone was lusting him! think positive!
ReplyDeleteWhy would the minister put on the veil for shame? I think since he was a minister that he should be able to forgive himself.
ReplyDeletelol oops. right, i think he's hiding something :D
ReplyDeleteI agree with Gabe but in a way that things likethis happen ALL the time.
ReplyDeleteI think he is hiding something and wearing the veil is his way of hiding it or covering it up.
ReplyDeleteHiding something, such as?
ReplyDeleteSarah they have to be forgiven by God not themselves.
ReplyDeletewell maria, i meant back then when the story was written, do you think it represented the life the author had or is it just a story?
ReplyDeleteDoes any one think that this story could be reflecting Hawthorne in the fact that he has mistakes that he wishs he could just hide from.
ReplyDelete@ Maria, I guess that could be a possibility, but i think the idea of him being ashamed of himself for some reason is more likely.
ReplyDeletei think its basied on an actual person but he made his own story and the only siin could be something to do with that girl who died
ReplyDeletejust because he is a minister, he's still human. maybe, the veil is there becuz he's not meant to make that mistake... but when it comes to the common ppl, its easier to forgive themselves.
ReplyDeletei think he is hiding something good thinkin ryan
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ryan that is a possibility. A lot of writers seem to like to reflect themselves in there stories.
ReplyDelete@ sarah and ashley, maybe the minister was forgiven by God, but he hasn't forgivin himself, so thats why he still is wearing the veil.
ReplyDeletenick he could of killed a man, had sex, or did one of the deadly sins and which this is his punishment
ReplyDeleteyea i think that there is something that he doesn't want people to know about him
ReplyDeleteI agree with ryan and ashley that it is a posibility
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Katie. If he would write something llike this then he would have to feel some sort of shame.
ReplyDeleteIt could be like maria said that he was protecting his marrige cause he was so cute
ReplyDeleteWell nick maybe he has some sourt of mental block or ocd where he cant imagin on taking the veil off no matter how much it effects his life
ReplyDeleteyeah u have to forgive yourself to be forgivin
ReplyDelete@ kenya, all humans make mistakes, even ministers are human by nature, and thus prone to making transgressions and sinning. So maybe he made a mistake that he can't possibly forgive himself for making, something to do with the girl who just died like Rachael said.
ReplyDeleteThe veil might be a representation of the sinful nature of humans and people are so terrified by it when they see it they go crazy and the veil is meant to display that
ReplyDelete@nick and Sam: There are many sins so there is no way we can figure out which one it is of the many.
ReplyDeletesam, i definetly think it was written for entertainment, but because of things we have learned about his kind of messed up past ...it could have to do with his life.
ReplyDeleteand katie...really i mean if you were a drop dead gorgeous minister trying to lead people away from sin...wouldnt you wear a veil?
right nick.
ReplyDelete@ ryan, i think that this may represent something in hawthornes life and used at minister to emphaize something that happened in his life, just wrote it a different way
ReplyDeleteI think hes a vampire and he doesnt want anyone to see his teeth
ReplyDeletei think that he wants to be a reverend because he feels guilty about something in his past and he wants to make up for it by doing the work of God but he wears the veil to remind him of his past sins
ReplyDeleteEveryone is talking about how the veil is keeping back shame. When I read this I had a feeling that the veil was keeping something from entering the minister, if that makes any sense.
ReplyDelete@ ryan i think he is a vampire
ReplyDeleteI do agree that the veil is a representation of humans sinful nature, like Brian said. Maybe the veil symbolizes death, like the minister is dead to the world or something.
ReplyDeletei was wondering about the wif ewhy do you think she left him
ReplyDeletehahaha good comment mariachiafalo. But we dont know if he is drop dead gorgeous.
ReplyDeletehaha, another cullen ryan, good thinking.
ReplyDeleteHow would the minister be dead to the world? @nick
ReplyDeletei dont think this story has anything to do with a hot minister hiding his face. cause they can't marry right?
ReplyDelete@ryan. Everyone knows he is a hot minister...not a vampire!
ReplyDeleteWell this all happens after the girls death, maybe something he did caused the girl to die or maybe he did something inappropriate with the girl and he decided to cut himself off as a result of that. @ashleyc
ReplyDeletei dont think hes a vampier
ReplyDelete@Nick I sort of agree with you. Sometimes ministers are not always the topic of discussion and that he isn't dead but he was ignored.
ReplyDeletenope definitely a vampiree @ maria
ReplyDeleteWellSam it depends on the religion but yes mostof the time they cant marry..But they still sin like the movie Angels and Demons the pope had an affair with a nun and that was against the religious laws.
ReplyDeleteRacheal, i think she left him because she wanted normality and if he wouldnt take off the veil and was attracting wispers, then maybe she couldnt take it
ReplyDeleteyes maria i would, so maybe thats it.
ReplyDeletehannah do you think he is actually hiding something, that he is ashamed of? Or do you agree with maria and the boys in the inner circle, and do you think he is wearing it to hide his face?
why is the minister being a baby just get over what he did wrong and do something good then he shouldnt be cryin then
ReplyDeleteSarah id have to agree with your comment... what if this veil gives him something that no one else has. Maybe some sourt of sacred knowlege.
ReplyDeletei don't know why this story would even be written in the first place. i don't think it's true because why would someone ever come up with this?
ReplyDeleteif he was ignored why did people suddenly notice when he did put the veil on?
ReplyDeleteOk he did marry so its not that they cant marry
ReplyDelete@rachael....thanks i agree. NOT A VAMPIRE!!!!
ReplyDeletemaybe we're all just overlooking it and he has that skin disease that MJ had, and he's ashamed.
ReplyDeleteSo that we can realize that vampires exist. @hgrisemer.
ReplyDeletekatie, i really think that he is hiding something from his past and that's just his reminder of it but he is trying to change his ways. it just seems strange to me though
ReplyDelete@ ashley, ya thats what i was thinking (not the movie) but as a sin and that the veil helped with that sin. that also might be why his wife left him because she felt like he didnt want to be with her cause he wore the veil

ReplyDeletekatie and hannah,
ReplyDeletereally i think that the veil is there to represent evil within him,not his appearance. i really do not know for sure that he is even attractive at all! ohhh wweelllll. hes dead now anyway....if its even real?
Maria why do you think the minister is hot what evidence do you have? If he was good looking he wound want a veil on. dont you think?
ReplyDeletethe minister is acting like a ninny muggins
ReplyDeleteI also thought when I read this that at the beginning of the wearing of the veil that people were surprised and that people were okay with it. But by the middle of the story everyone was scared to be in the presence of him.
ReplyDeleteyea..weird story
ReplyDeletehe was hiding the booger hanging out of his nose
ReplyDelete
